My boss got himself some sort of fancy VW bug race car. Wants to race my vette. Wants to do it on a track.
Anyone have any experience with Lime Rock CT race track? Anything I should know? Obviously we are going to compete against clock so not to wreck into each other but I have never done a track day. What do I need?

Is this like Top Gear where rules don’t mean anything and the bug will just cut across the infield?

hmm. Good point. I should anticipate that. Sprinkle some tire puncturing devices in the middle of field

i thought you meant FCA just announced a new challenger,
Was thinking that can’t be, since that’s less than the 15-20 model years dodge is so well known for.

Never done a track day? Take a look at these:

My big mistake was not checking the brakes and fluid level . I finished off a set of pads while at the track and the drop in fluid level set off the brake light. Of course, I didn’t have more fluid with me, so I had to limp it to the nearest gas station to get more. B e sure to top off the tank before you get to the track. You’re going to get terrible fuel mileage while on the track. :)
Bring spare coolant too. You may also need to adjust your tire pressure, so bring along a small compressor. If they don’t have drinks and snacks, don’t forget those and if the track you go to is like ours, there isn’t any shade or seating. You may want to bring both.

Thanks. I will look these over. Brakes are brand new. So is the coolant.
I don’t know if this track will allow us to go on the big loop or just the autocross stuff. Obviously big loop is preferred.
In theory any stock car should be able to go, but I think only autocross. I can’t find anywhere that I am allowed to go onto big loop and race so I don’t know how that works.
Also if I do go on big loop, is it just once? No practice run? Is it all day? Practice till you’re blue in the face or lacking brake fluid?

It all depends on the people running the show. The guy who organizes the one I go to divides the participants into three groups by the speed of their cars and driver experience . Each group gets three 20-minute runs. The starts are staggered by 20 to 30 seconds . If you catch the car ahead of you, you can only pass on the straights and only when the driver of the leading car signals you to pass. The idea is to keep cars from running side-by-side so the risk of accidents is minimized. It makes sense because the field of cars includes a bit of everything - Porches, Mustangs, WRXs, Chargers, etc. We even had a guy with an old police C rown Vic. He was practicing for Lemons .
I also highly recommend some camera gear and a copy of Harry’s Lap Timer for your phone. Here’s a lap from one of my sessions a couple of years ago. This was my third lap ever on this track. I caught and passed my buddy from work who swore that his Charger would whip my butt. Kudos to him for letting me post the video from his car !
When you mount the camera(s) , make sure the mount is solid. The video I posted could have been a lot better if I’d had a better mount.

I am NOT recording my getting whooped by a porsche 911. If I do, it will all be hearsay.

Come on now. Swallow your pride. Don’t share the video with the world. Review it with a fast guy so he can tell you how to get around the track faster. Relive your laps while watching it at work. Tr u st me, it’s cathartic.

I don’t anticipate to beat michael schumacher my first go around. If I go around without bumping every guard rail, I will consider it success. After that, I may start recording... that is... if the car still runs after.

Really, this is one of those times you will regret not recording. Trust me. I still kick myself for not having enough room on the phone to catch more than a few laps.
